About Us
An AI Tool for Making Pixel Art
pixie.haus is a tool for creating pixel art, sprites, and animations. I built it to make good-quality pixel art easier for everyone to create—from beginners to other game developers. It uses a handful of powerful AI models to help you make assets for your projects much faster.
The AI Models
The platform offers a few different AI models, each with its own strengths and credit cost. I choose models that work well for the pixel art style and replace them when better or cheaper options become available.
For Still Images and Sprites:
- Good Quality/Price Models (e.g., Prunaai): These models give a good mix of quality, speed, and price. They are very consistent and are a solid choice for most tasks.
- Fast Models (e.g., Schnell): These are the cheapest and fastest option, great for trying out lots of ideas quickly. They have a more unique, variable style.
- Advanced Models (e.g., Gemini Nano Banana): For complex prompts, these models have the best understanding. They are the top choice for editing existing images because they follow instructions so well.
- High-Quality Models (e.g., Imagen 4 & 3 Fast): These produce a clean, mature art style with high consistency and are great for creating professional-looking assets.
For Animation:
- Animation Models (e.g., Seedance-1-Pro-Fast): This model is highly recommended for animations. It's very consistent, produces smooth motion, and is inexpensive, making it ideal for sprite sheets. All animations are created from a starting image you provide.
Licensing and Usage
All models on pixie.haus are licensed for personal and commercial use. This means you can modify, publish, and sell the content you create without restrictions.
Key Features
The Pixel Art Pipeline:
Every image generated on pixie.haus goes through an automatic post-processing pipeline to make it ready for use. This process includes several steps: image resizing, color quantization to create a clean palette, background removal, and edge cleanup. The goal is to give you a polished, usable asset without extra manual work.
Pricing:
Generating pixel art starts at just 3 credits per image, and animations start at 55 credits. The smallest credit package is $5 for 600 credits, which keeps the tool affordable for indie developers and hobbyists.
Built-In Editor:
There's a simple editor with tools like flood fill and line drawing. It's useful for making small fixes to AI generations or sketching out an idea. It is not a replacement for a dedicated tool like Aseprite, but it's handy for quick tweaks.
Public Gallery:
pixie.haus has a public gallery where you can share your work, get feedback, and earn credit tips from other users. You can also "collect" work published by others, which lets you use their creations too.
Your Personal Library:
Your account comes with a personal library to store and manage all the assets you generate. Everything is saved in one place so you can easily find it later.
Who Is pixie.haus For?
pixie.haus is for:
- Beginners and Hobbyists: Easy to get started and create nice-looking pixel art without a lot of experience.
- Game Developers: Quickly generate sprites and assets, and use seed control to get a consistent art style.
- Animators: Use the specialized animation models to create sprite sheets from a starting frame.
- Content Creators: Make unique pixel art PNGs and GIFs for videos, streams, or social media.
Quickstart
Welcome to pixie.haus! Here’s a quick guide to the main features.
1. Press to change the background color
2. Creating Your First Image
To create an image, type a description (a "prompt") and hit submit. Here are the main settings you can adjust:
- Number of images: Generate multiple variations at once to see different results from your prompt.
- Resolution: Choose between 32x32, 64x64, and 128x128. 128x128 gives the best quality and detail. 64x64 is good for simpler sprites, while 32x32 is best for very simple icons.
- Seed: Use a specific seed number to create a consistent image. Using a seed locks the number of images to 1.
- Remove background (rm bg): This is on by default and is designed to create clean sprites of characters or items. It tells the AI to generate the object on a plain, solid background, which is then automatically removed. If you want to create a full scene with a background, turn this option off.
3. Managing Your Creations
Your generated images are automatically saved. Click the floppy disk icon ("Saved") in the top right (or in the mobile menu) to access your library. From there, you can perform several actions on each image:
- Edit the image in the built-in editor.
- Download it directly, or add it to a list to download multiple images at once.
- Publish your work to the public pixie.haus gallery.
- Use as profile picture for your account.
- Remove an image permanently from your library.
4. Quick Edits
pixie.haus includes a free, built-in editor for making simple changes. It has basic tools like flood fill and line drawing, and you can also use it to create pixel art from a blank canvas. It's meant for quick adjustments, not as a replacement for dedicated programs like Aseprite.
5. Sharing in the Gallery
Publishing your work helps you and the community. An image you don't need might be perfect for someone else. Here’s how it works:
- Share your creations in the public gallery to get feedback and earn credit tips.
- Likes, tips, and publishes earn you experience points, which can unlock rewards like free credits.
- Guidelines: No nudity, hate symbols, or harmful content. Please avoid publishing low-quality doodles or tests.
- Moderation: We reserve the right to remove images that violate the rules. Repeat offenders may have their accounts banned.
- License: By publishing, you grant pixie.haus a license to use your images for promotion and possibly for future AI model training.
- Control: You can unpublish your images at any time to remove them from the public gallery.

Team
Hi, I’m Stanisław Ursatjew, and pixie.haus is probably the most autistic project I’ve ever worked on. It’s a chaotic mix of hyperfocus, curiosity, and overengineering, and somehow it turned into a functional app. There’s no team behind it—just me, sitting at my desk after work, convincing myself that every unnecessary feature was absolutely essential.
I’ve dabbled in programming before. I studied math for two years and picked up some Pascal basics, at the same time studied quantitative methods in economics, where I learned a bit of R. I’ve also tinkered with Python for robotics projects on Raspberry Pi. But honestly, none of that really prepared me for building an app.
What made this possible? Magic—specifically, LLMs, mostly chatGPT 4o and later o1-mini (it was working for me better than Claude 3.5 Sonnet). Most of this app was written with their help. I spent five months in a browser window, going back and forth with GPT, solving problems step by step, asking questions, and learning on the fly. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have had the focus or persistence to finish this without them.
About a year ago, I started experimenting with generative AI models—just big, vanilla models without any extra tools. Some were better for pixel art than others. For instance, tools like Photoshop’s AI image generation really struggled with pixel art prompts, often producing glitched and unusable results. On the other hand, DALL-E 3 turned out to be surprisingly good. My first project was all about figuring out how to create decent-looking pixel art without prior experience. I generated initial versions with AI and then refined them manually in Photoshop. This process turned out to be an incredible way to learn. Since the AI provided quick results, I was able to focus on improving the details, identifying what didn’t work, and figuring out how to make the pixel art look better. It was frustrating but also rewarding, and that’s when the idea for pixie.haus started to form: what if I could streamline this process for others?
The app started simple—just a tool to generate and refine pixel art. But then I kept adding features. One of the highlights is the Pixies—procedurally-generated pixel mascots with randomized colors, faces, and wings. Do they make sense? Not really. Are they fun? Absolutely.
The whole project has been a mix of learning, experimenting, and just seeing what happens. Now that it’s live, I’m excited to see if anyone else finds it useful—or at least entertaining. Thanks for stopping by. If nothing else, at least I can say I made something weird and kind of wonderful—and maybe inspired someone else to dive into their own project.
